Relocating back to my roots in Vermont, I recognized the importance of having support, resources, and compassion through these transformative experiences. Drawing upon the principles instilled in me through a lifetime of lessons, I ventured into real estate, striving to create a lasting, positive impact.
In 2003, after years spent in Northern Virginia, my husband, Michael, and I made a life-changing decision to return to my roots in Vermont. I had been gone for 25 years, but my heart never truly left. I had such fond memories of childhood, riding horses, swimming in the lakes, and enjoying the countryside. During the 90s, we bought a lake house in Vermont, and every weekend there felt like home—we never wanted to leave.
At the time, I was a manager at Home Depot, and remarkably, they helped me transfer back to Vermont. Everything was aligning perfectly for this new chapter. Or so I thought. When we began working with our real estate agent, we felt like a transaction, not like valued clients.
Growing up, my family didn’t have a lot. We didn’t own a home, and there were nights I would go to bed hungry. My parents worked very hard, and so did I, contributing the money I made to the family so we could afford the necessities. These early experiences gave me a deep appreciation for the life my husband and I worked incredibly hard to build, along with the security and stability that homeownership provides.
Moving to Vermont without adequate support from our agent was disappointing. We felt like a transaction, not people. Our experience stuck with me as we started our new lives in Vermont.
My professional journey has been diverse, starting from my early days as a med tech and transitioning into medical management. Then, after being a stay-at-home mom, Home Depot offered me an incredible opportunity. Through their fast-track manager program, I spent 18 months training, gaining the skills to manage a substantial retail store despite having no prior retail experience. My husband's background as a third-generation custom builder complemented my newfound retail expertise, with shared passions for home improvement and remodeling.
It was some time before I thought about our bad real estate experience. Deep down, I knew I could do a better job. After retiring from my retail management career, I began managing seasonal lake properties for a local REALTOR®. I reconnected with my interest in real estate, and in 2013, I got my license and jumped into the industry. It was a process of learning the ropes and overcoming the initial challenges of establishing myself in a small community. Our move to Vermont became a source of inspiration, highlighting everything an agent shouldn’t do and fueling my commitment to providing exceptional service to my clients.
Life has taught me the value of hard work and perseverance. I learned early on that nothing worth having comes easy, and that lesson has guided me throughout my career. Real estate isn't just a job for me; it culminates my life experiences and values. It's about more than buying and selling houses; it's about helping people find their place in the world, just as I did in Vermont.
In 2018, I started my real estate group, Realty ONE Group Lakes & Homes (formerly Lakes and Homes Real Estate), to create a fair brokerage for agents and clients. My goal is to provide my agents with great opportunities, resources, systems, and processes, equipping them with the necessary tools for success. Additionally, volunteering and contributing to our community is a core part of our culture, ensuring we are making a positive impact beyond transactions and serving our clients.
Through real estate, I have found a fantastic avenue to use my experiences, skills, and compassion to do good for our clients, agents, and community. My son, Matthew, has joined me in real estate, marking yet another exciting chapter in this journey!
As grandparents now, we prioritize family time. Whether it's cooking together, enjoying dinners on our deck or going on drives through the Vermont countryside, we love quality time together.
As a women-owned business, I am proud of the space I have created where agents and clients feel valued and supported. I love what I do and am grateful for the many amazing people I get to work with. The personal connections with clients are the most rewarding aspect of my job. By understanding the emotions behind each transaction, I can find the best way to address each client’s needs and create a comfortable, informative, and enjoyable process.
Availability is key—I am there for my clients when they need me. I believe in genuine care for people; it's not something you can fake. Building relationships based on trust and understanding is fundamental to my approach. While some real estate agents might shy away from complex transactions, I embrace the challenge, working tirelessly to ensure the people I serve are successful. Continuous education is vital to staying at the top of my game and ensuring I have the best knowledge to represent you. I provide full-service support, prioritizing communication and transparency every step of the way. When the transaction ends, our relationship does not—I am here for you through each new chapter!
